Remote Car Starters
How to choose your car remote starter.
When purchasing a new car, the remote starter is the first thing that you want to have installed, especially if you live in Quebec. If so, you will have to choose amongst a wide selection of models and brands. Therefore it is important to properly evaluate your needs and possibilities. This is when the help of a specialist comes in handy choosing your remote car starter.
The first question that you should ask yourself is: How long am I planning to keep this vehicle? If you are on a lease, paying more for a lifetime warranty might not be necessary, but on the other hand if your plan is to keep the car 5 years or more than the lifetime warranty might be very interesting. The average lifetime of a remote starter is 7 to 10 years, and the average maintenance free period is 3 to 5 years. So one day, you might be very happy when a technician repairs your system by replacing some parts free under warranty.
Second thing to ask your self is: How far will I be from my vehicle when I remote start it? If you work in a hospital or an airport you are going to want a powerful system with an FM frequency band for maximum distance. Such places require more range because of three main factors: 1-Large parking lots and many cars. 2- Many communications devices are used in such buildings creating interferences. 3- Buildings are built in concrete which make it harder for the frequency to reach your vehicle.
On the other hand if you are near the vehicle, as in your driveway at home, then the range will not be as important. The range is measured in feet, for instance, an AM frequency remote car starter will give you between 500 and 2000 feet distance. There is also SH type system which means super heterodyne, SH is better than an AM band but less powerful than an FM band, it will give you between 2500 and 3500 feet range. The most powerful system on the market will have an FM band of frequency and they will reach in most cases more than a mile of distance. A remote starter with an FM band will also be less affected by interferences.
Then comes the third question: What is the cost of installation for a specific vehicle? Some vehicles will require more parts than others, and some more installation time. If you are driving a new luxury car, chances are it will not be the same installation price than a base model car. The same applies if your vehicle is a manual transmission it will be a little more expensive. It all depends on the work involved in each specific vehicle. Most cars today are factory equipped with a transponder; a transponder is a chip inside the key which acts as a starter kill for the vehicle. In such cases we will supply and install a bypass module to override that feature in your vehicle when you remote start the vehicle. Some vehicles also have OEM alarm system, which will also have to be controlled so that the alarm does not ring when you remote start the vehicle.
There are also a series of options available for your consideration, if you wish to lock and unlock the doors or activate the trunk release with the remote starter transmitter.
We will be happy to assist you in choosing an appropriate remote car starter for your vehicle.
